AGAM Theatre Lab (AGAM)

​

AGAM Theatre Lab (AGAM) is a young Singaporean Tamil theatre company dedicated to creating a sustainable platform for Tamil theatre within Singapore's vibrant arts landscape. Established in January 2019, AGAM has grown exponentially, producing trailblazing works that continually invigorate and enhance the presence of Tamil theatre in the local arts scene. Accorded with charity status and an accredited Institute of Public Character (IPC), AGAM became the first Tamil theatre company recognised under the Major company scheme under the National Arts Council. Over the past years, AGAM has not only produced traditional Tamil theatre works but has also innovated new forms of production and direction, pushing the boundaries of Tamil theatrical expression. The company has undertaken various initiatives to nurture and support young and aspiring artists, fostering the growth and development of talents within the community. Its work is characterised by its commitment to nurturing emerging talents, supporting new writing, and creating platforms for underrepresented voices. At the core of AGAM's work is the aspiration to create professional plays of the highest quality for contemporary audiences. Despite being a relatively young theatre company, AGAM's core team possesses a wealth of experience spanning organisational management and theatre-making, driving its remarkable success over the past five years. AGAM has successfully collaborated with various arts organisations, including Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, and has received recognition for its contributions, including the ST Life! Theatre Awards.

Akhilesh Dayal (Director)
 

Akhilesh Dayal’s theatre journey began with NTU Tamil Language Society’s Uthraa in 2018. Since then, he has been involved in more than 25 productions, taking on diverse roles including director, producer, stage manager, lighting designer, and technical manager. His notable works include Reservist (2019), Iruthiyil Yaar (2020), Animal Farm (2022), Bluetick (2024), and Saavadi (2025), which marked his directorial debut. Through his dedication to learning and innovation, Akhilesh continues to contribute meaningfully to the Singapore Tamil theatre community.

Vinith Kumar (Director)
 

Vinith Kumar began his theatre journey as a writer and actor with the National University of Singapore Tamil Language Society’s Sangae Muzhanghu in 2017. Over the past eight years, he has worked on more than 15 productions, serving as a director, production manager, stage manager, and actor. His notable credits include Animal Farm (2022), Re Somma (2024), Tharuthalai Thirutham (2024), and Bluetick (2024), which marked his directorial debut. Most recently, he directed Sangae Muzhanghu (2025), continuing to establish himself as a versatile theatre practitioner.

Shaikh Yasin

Shaikh Yasin is a versatile freelance bilingual actor whose passion for theatre began at the age of 12 through school productions. After resuming acting during his time at Nanyang Technological University, he quickly gained recognition for his lead role in the university’s annual Tamil musical. Balancing a career in engineering with his love for the arts, Yasin has contributed to more than 25 productions as an actor, production manager, and stage manager. His notable credits include Vilangkuppannai and Pachae Bungala Retta Koladaa (Double Murder in the Green Mansion), for which he received the ST Life! Theatre Award for Best Ensemble in 2024.

 

Shobha Thiban
 

Shobha Thiban is a theatre enthusiast whose journey in the arts began through school productions and web series. In recent years, she has expanded her involvement by taking on production management roles, gaining experience both onstage and behind the scenes. Driven by a love for storytelling and collaboration, Shobha embraces every opportunity to contribute to the creative process while continually growing within the theatre community.

 

Krishmita Shiv Ram
 

Krishmita Shiv Ram is a performer, communicator, and emerging media professional. A final-year International Relations student at SIM–University of London, she has acted, choreographed, and directed in theatre productions, short films, and television dramas. Beyond the arts, she has held leadership positions as Editor-in-Chief of the IAS Gazette and Vice-President of Tamizha and the Singapore Affairs Society. A part-time radio jockey with Oli 968 and a budding Mediacorp artiste, Krishmita was also the 3rd Runner-Up at V Supreme 2025. She is trained in Bharatanatyam and is currently learning Odissi.

 

Karls Karthikeyan
 

Karls Karthikeyan is a seasoned actor, dancer, and director with nearly three decades of experience in Singapore’s arts scene. Active since 1997, he has built an extensive portfolio across television and theatre, with notable appearances in productions such as Naam and Parambarai. His recent achievement includes winning the Best Villain award at Pradhana Vizha 2025. Beyond acting, Karls is skilled in Indian classical and folk dance, as well as martial arts disciplines including Silambattam, Kalarippayattu, and medieval sword fighting.

 

Nivedha Nagarajan
 

Nivedha Nagarajan is an emerging Singapore-based theatre practitioner with experience in acting, dance, and ensemble performance. Her theatre journey began through drama studies at Tanjong Katong Girls’ School and continued with productions at Victoria Junior College. She later trained with Agam Theatre Lab, performing in Uriyadi (2022), where she developed skills in acting, voice, physical theatre, clowning, and folk arts. Nivedha further expanded her practice at the National University of Singapore through productions such as Undercover and Fefu and Her Friends (2023). Professionally, she works as a Structural Engineer while pursuing her passion for theatre.

 

SRS Maheshwaran
 

SRS Maheshwaran has been actively involved in Tamil cultural activities from a young age and continues to explore storytelling and performance as creative outlets. He gained experience in contemporary Tamil theatre through Agam Theatre Lab’s Panikkan and later wrote and performed in Sangae Muzhangu 2025. During his time at the National University of Singapore, he was an active member of the Tamil Language Society, deepening his engagement with Tamil arts and culture. Maheshwaran remains committed to developing his craft in acting and writing while contributing to Singapore’s Tamil cultural landscape.

 

Sabarees Kumar
 

Sabarees Kumar is an emerging theatre artist who began his journey through the National University of Singapore’s Tamil Language Society, where he participated as both an actor and props crew member. Passionate about storytelling in all its forms, he also joined the Scripts Unplugged mentorship programme to strengthen his scriptwriting skills. Most recently, he performed a solo Tamil monologue in VUCA, part of Agam Theatre Lab’s series of experimental works. Sabarees is dedicated to growing as a theatre practitioner and exploring new opportunities in the performing arts.
